EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE: I am a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City and am currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Ayurveda. I work with women of all ages to address issues around food behavior, cravings, nourishment, societal pressures, and whole health.
TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY: Everything is food, and when our food changes, EVERYTHING changes. If our cells, tissues, organs and overall body are undernourished, malnourished, or overburdened with processed, de-natured food-like substances, it is difficult, if not impossible, to feel good, think clearly and enjoy life. My approach is based on bioindividuality; the idea that each body is unique and has unique nutritional needs. My job as a health counselor is to be a skillful listener, provide compassion, support, and encouragement, and to guide you toward your innate knowing of what is deeply nourishing for you. Together we will gently and persistently introduce small, sustainable, food and lifestyle changes that will support balance, clarity, and whole health.
Yes, I feel recovery is possible. Given half a chance, the human body has the brilliant, inborn capacity to heal itself from the inside out. Recovery means rediscovering our cellular intelligence, establishing a relationship of utmost respect and compassion with ourselves, and re-kindling our love and enthusiasm for life. Personally, I believe that we suffer from a national eating disorder; due to societal, political, popular, and economic forces, health-supporting choices are practically discouraged, despite much lip-service in the media and health industries about healthy food and lifestyle. We live in a culture that expects women to be successful, drop-dead gorgeous and rail-thin 24/7, aggressively and deceptively markets nutritionally deficient (at best) and downright harmful food-like substances to our most vulnerable populations (children, teenagers, young women), and favors the interests of large corporations over national and individual health. These are overwhelming forces for a young person (or anyone!) to understand and overcome, in order to ultimately make food and life choices that are truly nourishing and health-supportive. Once we get caught in this matrix of deception and expectations, not to mention the daily stresses of life, our perception of ourselves can become skewed and our choices can become more about surviving than thriving. Recovery to me, therefore, means that the individual has a stronger association and respect for their inner intelligence and inner beauty than they have for any expert, image, or product. Recovery means establishing a relationship of compassion, understanding and unconditional love and acceptance with the Self, and only then will harmful, protective or coping behaviors fall away and make way for a robust, joyful experience of life.
