CREDENTIALS/DISCIPLINE: Doctor of Psychology (Psy. D.) Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Board Certified: No
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Number of years treating patients with eating disorders: 2-5 years
Number of patients with eating disorders treated annually: 15+
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE: I am a licensed clinical psychologist who is passionate about helping people achieve their full potential. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Youngstown State University with Bachelor degrees in Psychology and Criminal Justice and went on to earn an MS degree and a PSY.D in Clinical Psychology from Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR. I have worked in many different settings with very diverse populations including: a college counseling center, a medium security correctional facility, a large medical center, a state mental health institution, and two different alternative day schools in San Jose. I specialize in adolescent psychology, but also treat school age children and adults. My interest in Eating Disorders developed out of my private practice and training experiences. I am committed to serving this population with a caring and down to earth approach. In addition to my private practice, I am the clinical director of Cielo House in San Jose where I oversee both the PHP and IOP eating disorder programs.
TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY: I strongly believe in meeting clients "where they are at". People are definitely more than just their problems. My clients are treated as a whole person with both strengths and struggles. I believe that therapy works best when it happens in the safety of a trusting, supportive, and collaborative relationship. My style can be best described as flexible as my interventions are based on the unique needs of my clients. I often blend psychodynamic therapy with CBT and DBT interventions.
Yes I believe it is possible to recover from an eating disorder and I define recover as: I do believe it is possible to recover from an eating disorder. In my opinion, recovery is being able to maintain a healthy self-image and to effectively use adaptive coping skills to cope with life's challenges.
