EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERTISE: Degrees listed above. I have been in the private practice of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis since 1980 where I treat children adolescents and adults and work with parents. I also supervise interns and licensed therapists. I have worked extensively with eating disorders during that time. I am on the faculty of The San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis and the Palo Alto Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program ans also teach for NCSPP, where I have conducted 2 workshops on eating disorders.
TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY: I work individually in collaboration with a treatment team. I offer in depth psychoanalytically oreinted treatment abd have had a lot of success with people for whom shorter term, more behaviorally oriented treatments have failed. I feel you can recover from an eating disorder and I define recovery as: Return to normal weight and exercise regimen, resumption of menses (if absent). Improvement of body image (ie realistic perception of oneself) and resolution of underlying psychological conflicts which played a pert in the development of the eating disorder. (This could also include some work on family relationships).
